Thanks to a great recommendation from a friend, I spent today checking out the Bishop Arts District of Dallas. This area is so different from downtown where I am staying, and really has vibes that remind me of Austin.
I started the morning at The Salty Donut around 8:30 AM. I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, the color scheme of which was very tailored to my preferences: navy blue, pink and white.
The menu had a great selection of coffees, and of course, an amazing array of donuts. Donuts included flavors like maple bacon, horchata, cornflake cereal milk & honey, and cookies + cream cake.
I got the dragon + passion fruit donut, which was described to me as the sweetest donut flavor they had available.
I also opted for the matcha latte, which was a really rich and natural matcha flavor, not overpowered by any sweetener or other ingredients.
I sat outside on the patio and read my book, while people watching and enjoying the great donut creation. The passion fruit flavors were actually present in this cream filled donut, which actually surprised me. I really appreciated that The Salty Donut made sure flavors were natural and quality, rather than overly sweetened or artificially amplified.
The patio itself brags awesome decor. With wall murals and a little cactus garden, there are so many opportunities for a great for photo op. I can only imagine the place in the evenings all lit up with the cute hanging lamps and string lights they had on.
Inside they had a little gift rack with branded water bottles, cups, T-shirts and bandanas. Definitely thinking about getting a cup for making iced lattes from home when I visit again. The branding is adorable, and everything was fairly reasonably priced.
After The Salty Donut, I headed to grab breakfast and continue reading my book. I stopped at Tribal All Day Café. The coffee and juice menus were artistically designed, which matches the artistic atmosphere of the entire district.
I ended up ordering Lox of Love and a pumpkin latte. Ask which flavor syrups they have available when you go if you prefer a little extra sweet to your coffee. That day they were offering vanilla, lavender, and pumpkin, all of which they make in-house. The food was delicious, and just another example of the quality and care for ingredients.
One thing I liked about this café was that I was one of four women dining alone outside. I don't often see that, so it really made me feel comfortable being there alone and not so much like I stood out.
After breakfast, things were starting to open, as it was around 10:00 AM. I started popping in and out of shops on the street, starting with Laughing Willow. That store has a ton of cute clothing and jewelry, showcasing various cottagecore clothing.
As it started to get hotter, I made my way to Epiphany, which had carefully curated pieces that immediately caught my eye. I bought and entire outfit to change in to as it grew increasingly hotter towards the afternoon. I ended up with a very cute shirt, a matching leather headband, plus a pair of adorable sunglasses which I desperately needed after staring down the Texas sun all morning.
After changing in to something more comfortable, I went in to the Urban Owl. This actually ended up being my favorite store in the district - I loved the home goods they had. A lot of their items were astrology or palmistry themed, which everyone knows is right up my alley. I saw a 1,000-piece puzzle that was celestial themed that I am still thinking about. I will definitely be revisiting this store before I leave to get that puzzle!
Another great store that comes with high recommendations is All Good Things. Similar to the Urban Owl, it is home goods galore - amazingly scented candles and the cutest kitchen tools that would have any chef splurging. I bought the pair of earrings featured in the image of my outfit above, which were made of horn and hammered gold. I also left with a small paint-by-numbers kit to pass the time on weeknights when I need a little break from work.
I treated myself to a little pie from Emporium before continuing my shopping. The inside of this pie shop smells amazing. I mean how could it not with flavors like apple (Lord of the Pies), peanut butter honey (Nutty Honey), and spicy pumpkin (Drop Dead Gourdgeous).
I had a slice of Buttercream Gang, which is a buttermilk pie that was as good as it sounds. Very sweet, but also rich and comforting. It was packaged up adorably in a little pie basket that completely surprised me, but totally made my day.
Afterwards, I went in to fete-ish. Fete, the french word for party, describes the theme of this store. Literally everything you never knew you needed can be found here.
I highly recommend taking a look online just to browse the selection. the items are just so fun and funny, it's all worth a look.
Finally, I stopped at A J Vagabond, an outdoor shop with some amazingly cute knick-knacks to showcase. I bought some stickers and a pin to commemorate my time in Dallas and the Bishop Arts District. I also bought a gold necklace with a square with the word "VACCINATED" hammered in to it that definitely made me laugh. Now I wear it constantly!
I had an amazing time at the district and will be visiting again next Saturday before leaving the city - maybe I will even have more to add to this post! Check out all the shops and learn more about the Bishop Arts District at the website bishopartsdistrict.com.
